One of the primary tenets of the Haliburton Farm is that small scale, organic farming is compatible with maintaining and restoring ecosystem health. While industrial and conventional agriculture has caused large scale environmental damage, Haliburton Community Organic Farm will be a demonstration site, not only for organic and sustainable farming practices, but also for natural systems restoration in the area surrounding the farm.

The Society's educational role will (in part) be fulfilled by opportunities for the local community to learn about how organic farming facilitates environmental and human health. In addition to the farm plots, there will be a demonstration pond/wetland area and restoration work will be undertaken in the forested area at the back of the property.

While organic farming techniques will be of interest to many community members, information will also be available for them to learn how to care for their own gardens and properties in an ecologically sound manner.
